Austin Air HealthMate Plus — Medical-Grade HEPA + Enhanced Chemical & VOC Filtration

The Austin Air HealthMate Plus is a heavy-duty, medical-grade HEPA air purifier built for homes and workplaces dealing with chemicals, gases, and smoke—not just dust. It pairs 60 sq ft of True Medical-Grade HEPA with a much larger specialty carbon bed—over 780 cubic inches of activated carbon, zeolite, and potassium-iodide-impregnated carbon—so it captures fine particles down to 0.3 microns while targeting VOCs, formaldehyde, benzene, and chemical odors. Housed in all-steel construction and rolling on casters, it covers spaces up to ~1,500 sq ft and is a go-to choice for wildfire smoke, new construction, and off-gassing.

How the 4-stage filtration works

Air is drawn in through a 360° perforated-steel intake and passes through four stages. Stage 1, a large-particle pre-filter, catches dust, hair, and pet dander. Stage 2, a medium-particle pre-filter, captures mold spores and pollen. Stage 3 is the HealthMate Plus's signature: a deep bed of activated carbon, zeolite, and impregnated carbon that adsorbs VOCs, formaldehyde, gases, and chemical odors that ordinary HEPA units pass straight through. Stage 4 is 60 sq ft of True Medical-Grade HEPA, certified to capture 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns and 99% at 0.1 microns—including smoke, dust, dander, pollen, and allergens. A 3-speed permanent-split-capacitor motor keeps it running quietly and continuously for years.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the HealthMate Plus and the standard HealthMate?
Both use the same 60 sq ft of Medical-Grade True HEPA and cover up to ~1,500 sq ft. The Plus adds a much larger, specialized carbon bed—activated carbon, zeolite, and impregnated carbon—built to target chemicals, VOCs, formaldehyde, and gases, which makes it the better fit for smoke and chemical exposure.

How big a space does it cover?
Up to ~1,500 sq ft. In a smaller room it simply cycles the air more times per hour, which is ideal if you want faster particle and odor removal.

Is it good for wildfire smoke?
Yes—it's one of the most popular choices for it. The HEPA stage captures fine smoke particles while the deep carbon bed helps reduce the smoke odors and gases that particle-only purifiers leave behind.

How often do the filters need changing?
Austin Air rates the filter for up to 5 years (backed by a pro-rated 5-year filter warranty). Actual life depends on how heavy your air quality and usage are—smoke, construction dust, and heavy chemical loads will shorten it.

Does it give off ozone?
No. The HealthMate Plus is purely mechanical HEPA-and-carbon filtration—no ozone and no ionization.
